Hello, everyone!
Your friendly neighborhood Sassy Square here, back with another heartwarming tale. This time, it’s all about a memorable kindergarten field trip that we had the privilege of attending and photographing. The trip was a whale watch adventure by Cape Ann Whale Watch, and it was a joint venture between East Gloucester Elementary and Veterans Memorial Elementary.
Now, this wasn’t just any field trip. It was the last kindergarten field trip for East Gloucester Elementary, a school that will be dearly missed as it’s set to be demolished this summer. But as one chapter ends, another begins. Come next school year, East Gloucester Elementary and Veterans Memorial Elementary will unite in a brand new building, aptly named East Veterans’ Elementary School.
The trip itself was nothing short of spectacular. The knowledgeable staff at Cape Ann Whale Watch, whose details can be found here, guided us through the journey. Their ability to identify each whale, know them by name, and share their history was truly amazing. Did you know? Every tail of a Humpback Whale is completely unique to that one individual only, as in no two Humpbacks have the same fluke pattern and shape. This corresponds to the notion of a human fingerprint!
The excitement in the kindergarteners’ eyes as they saw a whale breach for the first time was a sight to behold. I found myself torn between watching the awe-struck faces of the kindergarteners and the majestic whales themselves. We also had the rare opportunity to see a 15-foot basking shark and accompany a whale and her calf for half of the trip. These are moments none of us will surely forget.
We’ve compiled a collection of our favorite shots from the trip for you to view and download. Each photo captures the wonder, joy, and awe of the kindergarteners as they embarked on this unforgettable adventure. From the wide-eyed excitement of seeing a whale breach to the bittersweet smiles at the thought of saying goodbye to their beloved school, these photos tell a story that words alone cannot.
So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and join us on this virtual whale watch. And remember, each click, each download brings us closer as a community, celebrating the unforgettable moments that make our backyard so special.
Stay sassy! 🙂
