Portraits of Women, by Women – Hammond Castle Museum

Portraits of Women, by Women — An Evening of Art, History, and Powerful Stories

On March 22nd, Hammond Castle Museum hosted the opening night of Portraits of Women, by Women, a stunning collaboration with the Rocky Neck Art Colony in celebration of Women’s History Month. And yes — Sassy Square was there to capture every moment!

It was an unforgettable evening: inspiring remarks from Senator Bruce Tarr and Mayor Greg Verga, guests exploring the historic castle halls, meeting the artists, and celebrating the strength and creativity of women through powerful portraiture.

The exhibit featured recent works by talented women artists from the Rocky Neck Art Colony, including Elizabeth Bish, Janice Brand, Robin Colodzin, Susan Ellis, Elizabeth Gauthier, Janet Grover, Joyce Roessler, Amy Sudarsky, and Helen Tory.

In addition to the contemporary pieces, visitors admired a reproduction of The Lookout – All’s Well by Winslow Homer, painted by Irene Fenton Hammond, wife of John Hays Hammond Jr., and Costume Designs, Series B, No. 3, Medieval Abbess, a painting by Natalie Hays Hammond, the artist and playwright sister of the museum’s founder.
